Yesterday I had an ad on lj yell at me that I need to find a mate, today I find an ad I'm forced to watch before I can even Get to lj? Seriously?
I'm not a paid account right now because of how much bs livejournal has been throwing at it's customers in the last couple of years, and this is just another example of bad behavior I will not reward by giving them my money.
I hate how all the other social networking sites encourage brevity of words, but I'll be going there a lot more often if I'm bombarded by ads that yell at me or keep me from going where I want to go on this site.
I just gave Freya (one of our three cats) a bath. It was necessary, she had a urinary tract infection, and needed a good cleanup. I haven't given a cat a bath in at least 15 years. I really think she thought I'd decided to kill her by drowning. She cried, and she screamed, and she grasped, and she struggled, and I felt like a murderer. I can't believe that the cops aren't knocking at my door from all the noise. But for all that, she never once tried to bite or claw me. I'm amazed, she didn't hurt me, though (she thought) her life depended on it. I can't believe I'm not bleeding, for all that happened in that quick 5-10 minutes. The worst that happened to me is that I broke a nail somewhere in there.
And for all the heartbreaking screaming she did, as soon as I got her out of the bath and into a towel, she calmed down immediately and only took about two minutes to start purring. I never want to do that again, but I have a new appreciation for how sweet Freya is.
The local news keeps telling me of churches and other organizations that are collecting food, medical supplies and clothes to send to Haiti. My question: How are you going to get the stuff there, and what are they supposed to do with it if it arrives?
The airport with it's one runway is so overwhelmed that they've turned doctors away, but your box of hamburger helper, bandaids, and sweaters is going to get there? Seriously? If you want to help, give Money to a Large reputable organization that is already in Haiti. They've got the infrastructure figured out, help them do what needs doing. Don't give your pastor a bunch of stuff that's going to sit in church storage for six months while they figure out what to do with it.
Don't take my word for it, read this article on the subject. Don't make the situation worse, give Money if you're going to give anything.
Anyone know what the "Browser Highlighter" is? I found it on my computer (an icon on the bottom right hand side). I don't know how it got there, and it apparently came from ebay, and I'm a little annoyed that I downloaded something without knowing it. I'd like to go back to ebay without having to worry about this happening again, because it slowed down my browsing Significantly. I only noticed it because I got worried that I had downloaded a virus somewhere...
Today I caved in and bought a winter jacket. The news told me that it wouldn't get above 30 degrees for the next week, and that decided it. I really love the new coat. It's charcoal gray wool, "London Fog" (which is a good brand), it was half off at Macys, and I had a gift card. :)
I'm playing around with Mint, a financial website Clark Howard suggests using. Basically, you give them all your financial information, and everything is tracked live in the same place. It gives you a lot of financial advice, and so far I really like it. It's also 100% free. It forced me to track down my old 401k (which is great, except that of course it's worth a lot less than it was a couple years ago), and seeing everything in the same place is awesome. I didn't think my financial life was that complicated, but there's a lot going on that I don't really think about day to day. When I add in Michael's information (I'm trying to make a household budget), it's going to be crazy. But good. :)
