Today they started painting the house. It's going to be labradorite blue colored (my favorite gemstone by coincidence), the door, shutters and window topper will be raisin colored (sort of an eggplant purple), and the trim will be ivory (I need to make sure I get the color name from the guy).

Our house is currently blue and purple, and it would cost a Lot more to change the colors, so that's what we're going with and I'm happy with it. Anything is better than the old, mottled and faded paint we have now :)

So, now I just have to deal with the six guys climbing all over the house all day making strange noises that sound like they're inside.

Yesterday we got the gutters replaced. Today the power washer is here cleaning everything so they can start painting the exterior tomorrow. It's weird. I know there's only one guy power washing, but the sound of the water hitting the house seems to be coming from... everywhere.

We're getting our house painted, the deck painted, the gutters replaced and the chimney hardiplanked on Monday! Woo hoo!! We're finally embarking on this crazy project, and the guy says it'll only take 3 days! And he's the least expensive, but best looking (most complete) proposal and estimate we've ever received :)

Tonight I hung out at the park in Kenessaw, and the bugs (flies especially) were out in force. So I put some OFF! on. On the way home I gave myself a sore throat from being stuck in the car with the smell on me. I got home, took a shower, washed my hair, and scrubbed like crazy. I still smell like Off. How many showers does it take to get rid of this stuff? I'm going to have to go to sleep like this and I already don't feel great just from smelling the chemicals all night... Bleh.

I just found the greatest thing at Hobby Lobby. It's a notepad the shape and size of a mouse pad, with a small calendar printed at the bottom. I have So Many little scraps of paper around my desk, this is Exactly what I needed (not to mention I really did need a mousepad too). And when you run out of paper, it's a decorative mouse pad. :)

I've decided I don't like making cakes. Mine end up looking like a child made them. :P

I just baked a cake for a friend's birthday party tomorrow! It's golden butter cake and will have chocolate frosting and yellow icing decoration. It's cooling now, and it looks like it came out alright! (Despite me temporarily misplacing the beater, and resorting to the hand crank, which I'm very happy I have.) :)

I found this link, but it doesn't actually help me. Anyone else ever get this? And if so, what prompted it?

I talked to my neighbor who's always out walking her dog, and apparently one of the neighbors across the street owned the cat, she "somehow" got pregnant, and the neighbor didn't want to deal with it so she "put the cat out". And now we have kittens in a car.

That's really nice. Here's a life form you've made a commitment to, you did a crappy job as their caretaker and they got pregnant, and now when she's carrying kittens you decide to stop feeding her and kick her out into the world? Wow. You win most heartless neighbor of the year.

But now we know the mother cat isn't feral. So if anyone wants a really sweet young black cat with white socks, or a black kitten or maine coon colored kitten, let me know. :)

Okay, to all my animal rehab friends:
What do you do when you find a family of kittens living in your neighbors car undercarriage?

I opened my front door this morning to an indeterminate number of kittens staring up at me, and tracked them back to their home base. I'd estimate they're about 5 weeks old. Of course they're absolutely adorable. Help?

PS Is anyone in need of a kitten or two? They look to be of adoptable age, they'll just need their vaccinations and to be neutered. :)

PPS I just opened my front door to take out the garbage, and not ten feet away was a red tailed hawk hanging out at head level in the front yard tree. What's up with the animal explosion at my place?

We've been getting calls from "Haynes, Marilyn (404)315-0111" nearly every day for a couple weeks, but she doesn't leave a message and it's never when we're around. She called just now and I picked up the phone thinking "Finally! I get to find out who it is!" She asked me if I'm Ms. Michael's Last name, I asked her who was calling and it was again the "American Kidney Service." She's clearly a very old lady, and now I have guilt because I told some nice old lady not to call again in a firm voice.

I find it interesting that if you google "American Kidney Service", you get five results, two of which are my last post, two are about someone who had recently started working for them and died, and one is about people donating to them. None of them are about any good work they've done.

The radio station I listen to was taken off the air a few months ago, and I've been struggling to find a station with music I like since then. Well, it's back! 99X is now on 97.9 :)

I'm going to treat myself to home-made pizza tonight, currently I'm waiting for the dough to rise :)

Update: When you let the dough rise for an hour like you're supposed to, you end up with crusts 4 inches high. It's everything good pizza is supposed to taste like... just.... tall.

I watched Caprica today, the Prequel to Battlestar Galactica. It was good. It's the story of Adama's dad and the guy who creates the first Cylon. Not crazy awesome, but good. I'll probably watch the series when it comes out. I really liked Battlestar Galactica. This series doesn't capture my attention in the same way, but I'll give it a good try :)

Our favorite theater closed their doors.

Startime was a theater, bar, diner, comedy club, arcade, bowling alley, awesome mini golf, go cart park, and more. They were our favorite because even on opening night of a shiny new movie there wouldn't be more than 20 people in the seats. (I know, it was a sign that things weren't going well.) It was quiet, clean, recently refurbished and a great place to go. We'll miss it, and we're sad that it failed after 10 years. It had a lot of potential, and I have no idea why it failed. Especially since they recently put in all new stadium seating in all the theaters and started advertising on tv...

Today Michael and I were productive (on a Saturday!).

We got our hair cut, and I found a lady who actually understands that when I say I want # Inches cut from my hair, I do not in fact intend for them to cut 3x# Woo hoo!

Michael bought $2100 worth of suits today for $600 (Joseph A Bank is having a 3 suits for 1 sale going on). This is good because he's meeting more and more end users, and needs more than his 'weddings and funerals' suit. A nice bonus: He looks awesome in a suit, and should wear them more often.

I made pizza tonight, from scratch (nearly)! Publix sells raw pizza dough in their bakery section ($3). It is super tasty! There aren't any instructions, so I stuck it in the oven at 450 degrees for 11 minutes, and it came out beautifully. I highly recommend the publix raw pizza dough, it's Way better than precooked pizza dough or frozen pizza. This really tastes like pizza from a pizza place! :)

Someone on my friends list has a 'hobby' that involves attempting to list 1000 species on their land (plant, animal and insect life). I think there's a website out there for it as well. Anyone know what I'm talking about and what it's called?

Amazon is apparently responding to emailed inquiries about the weekend debacle with the following statement. However, they have not yet issued an official press release.

"This is an embarrassing and ham-fisted cataloging error for a company that prides itself on offering complete selection.

It has been misreported that the issue was limited to Gay & Lesbian themed titles – in fact, it impacted 57,310 books in a number of broad categories such as Health, Mind & Body, Reproductive & Sexual Medicine, and Erotica. This problem impacted books not just in the United States but globally. It affected not just sales rank but also had the effect of removing the books from Amazon’s main product search.

Many books have now been fixed and we’re in the process of fixing the remainder as quickly as possible, and we intend to implement new measures to make this kind of accident less likely to occur in the future."

Back from the doctor, I've got codeine for the cough and eye drops for the pink eyes. I felt like a leaper in the grocery store waiting for the drugs, I couldn't stop coughing and my coughs sound Terrible. But I'm home now, took my drugs, and I'm going to go take a nap.

Amazon is too big to let this crap happen.

Amazon.com recently delisted gay and lesbian titles from its sales ranking system it deemed "adult," raising the ire of some who characterize the move as online censorship. Read more... )

My body hates me. I'm getting pink eye. Apparently it often happens after you've been sick for a while. That's just great. I'll call my eye doctor tomorrow and see if they can proscribe me something without seeing me. I've had pink eye before, I remember the symptoms.

Unfortunately my current (new) glasses Suck, and give me raging headaches, and I'm not excited about being forced to wear them for the next two weeks. I got a deal on them, just a two hour wait and $100, but had to agree that they wouldn't have a return policy. I've never had glasses that weren't perfect from the start, so I agreed, not thinking it would be a big deal. I'm not going back to that Pearl Vision again. My usual eye doctor is awesome for the eyes, but crazy expensive and can't get me new glasses faster than two weeks and for less than $400.

Current Mood: frustrated

My cough is Terrible today. Michael's gone out to get us some food, he's been really good about providing the meals while I've been sick (he doesn't cook, and I'm not up to cooking right now). I feel terrible, but my throat is getting better. I'm impatient to feel better. I keep thinking, it'll be better tomorrow. And I guess it is, more or less, but it's going Slowly.

Still sick. Crazy sore throat, I can't talk over a whisper and am coughing now. Might be time to see what a doctor can do about it. I'm supposed to be at two birthday celebrations and an Easter Dinner on Saturday, Easter Supper on Sunday... We will see...

To everyone currently reading this entry, take note, the Zombie Apocalypse was officially recognized on this the Eighth Day of April, Anno Domini Two Thousand and Nine.

To future survivors I say this, here is where the outbreak began. Find the source and you will find the answer. Take heed!

I'm sick. It's the real flu. Terrible aching body, fever, sore throat. But I got my flu shot this year! Oh well.... no one come near me, or Michael. He's getting it now too...

We have a guy coming over in ten minutes to give us an estimate on painting the exterior of the house. I'm going to meet him at the door, tell him not to come near me and that he can't come in. And then get back in bed.
